About our rating system

The famous route might be nothing like what you expect, and the key to success is preparation. Down in San Juanico, the locals have mapped out a 10-mile training micro-divide loop that replicates the most common terrains and challenges found on the major route. From sandy hills to rocky climbs, stunning vistas to wide, loose gravel roads—you’ll get a taste of everything. So if you have the chance for a road trip, we highly recommend giving it a try!

Bring your bike and check the Bikepackers Supporters Map to see who in town can offer advice. You might even find someone willing to lend you a rig if you didn’t bring your own.

Pack your two-wheeled mule as if you were setting off on a month-long adventure and see for yourself whether you’re truly ready.

Keep in mind: If things are rattling or you’re losing gear along the trail, your setup may need adjustments—or it might not be suitable for Baja. And if you find yourself stepping off the bike more than once or twice, consider some extra training before tackling the full route.

On the other hand, if you cruise through without issues, remember that the official route is simply a longer version of what you just rode—stretching across full days and multiple weeks.

So, are you ready for the test?

– We don’t include WAYPOINTS in our gpx files due to their unreliablility especially regarding water, ranches and road conditions markers –

* you will download a compressed .zip file. Once downloaded open it to decompress it. It will now show the GPX file as a text. Click the share button and share it in the GPS navigation app that you normally use.
